Resistance!

If you want to rely on certainty “resistance” is a (very) safe choice. Resistance seems to be part of our DNA and something we all get to experience at various stages of our lives.

Be that resistance to learn something new or even resistance to success.

My mentor used to tell me, “what you want (be that promotion, personal power or prosperity) is on the other side of resistance”. Whenever she said that I honestly didn’t have a clue about what she was talking about.

What on earth did she mean by that?

Wasn’t I “clever enough”, having spent many thousand of dollars on my own personal education and wasn’t I a fully qualified coach? Well, truth be told I probably wasn’t as smart as I thought I was.

The key that I learned is that resistance resides in the mental department.

And if you try to approach resistance with mental tools (like I did) and like so many of us are taught, there isn’t the slightest chance of changing anything except “rearranging a few furniture” on the surface of your mind.

I prefer to take to Einstein’s advice. Einstein said something to the extend of “you cannot solve a problem with the same kind of thinking that caused the problem in the first place.”

To that I would add that most of the time you really cannot solve the problem by thinking! You have to act; check out of the mental department and start to rely on the wisdom of your gut feeling.

And once you start to do that (let your brain take a rest it probably needs it) and take direct action – which is directed more by your gut feeling than your intellect – that is when life start to change for the better – at least that’s been my own experience for all that it’s worth.

So why am I talking about resistance in the first place?

Because resistance could very well be what is keeping you stuck in your comfort zone.

Maybe you know what you want. For example, reduce your level of stress so that you can sleep at night and stop biting your nails, or perhaps simply getting started on writing the book that’s been on your mind for years.

But you are still procrastinating because you are resisting the change. Don’t get me wrong. Resistance can certainly be good at appropriate times and it isn’t always bad.

But here is the thing.

Most often resistance is developed at a very young age and although it may have been a good strategy at the time being to be on guard and judge everything as good or bad, this strategy probably doesn’t work for you if you are an adult person who wants to create real results.

I mean, results that REALLY matter to your heart, your soul, and your bank account.

So how do you go about breaking your personal wall (of resistance) down?

Here’s a couple of tips to help you get started:
